Bulletin # 13 PRO & MO – 05/05/2017

All land required for the construction and operation of the N6 Galway City Ring Road (GCRR) is to be compulsory acquired through statutory processes known as a Protected Road Order (PRO) and a Motorway Order (MO).

Both of these processes involve the preparation of land acquisition drawings which consist of a map or series of maps outlining the lands to be acquired bounded in red together with various schedules which give details of ownership of property/land and, where appropriate, lessees and occupiers. Details are also given where it is proposed to extinguish public rights of way after acquisition of the relevant land. For PROs, the plots which are to be acquired for the protected road are coloured yellow, whilst additional lands acquired within the scheme but not forming part of the protected road are coloured grey (e.g. side roads). For MOs, the plots which are to be acquired for the motorway are coloured blue, whilst additional lands acquired within the scheme but not forming part of the motorway are coloured grey (e.g. side roads). Various schedules outline these plots.

Both of these processes will prohibit all or any means of direct access to or from the proposed protected road for the PRO or motorway for the MO, other than access at the proposed junctions on the scheme.

When the planning application is made to An Bord Pleanála, the PRO/MO notification will be posted by registered post to all landowners listed in all the schedules, this is currently envisaged to be in Q3 2017. This will notify landowners that the planning permission has been submitted and the statutory process has begun. There will be a set period of time to give all an opportunity to make a submission directly to An Bord Pleanála in relation to the PRO/MO.
